As a knitter, I've discovered a love for fingerless mitts, because they allow me the freedom and dexterity of bare fingers (crucial for holding my needles) while keeping the rest of my hands warm. As a student, I find myself knitting a lot during lectures. And as a budding scientist, I've found inspiration in my classes—most especially biological structures. So what was there for me to do but design something with the elegant double helix of DNA?
This pattern is for Adult sizes XS/S/M/L/XL fingerless mitts, to fit hands with a circumference of 7/7.5/8/8.5/9in (18/19/20.25/21.5/23cm). They are knit from the cuff down completely in the round, with a gusseted thumb.

Suggested Yarn: Cascade Heritage Silk [85% Superwash Merino Wool, 15% Silk; 437yd/400m per 100g skein]; color: Italian Plum; 1 skein
Suggested Needle Size: US 2/2.75mm
Gauge: 28 sts x 42 rws = 4in/10cm stockinette stitch
